We all know college can be costly and ultimately result in debt that we do not want as adults! If I could do undergraduate over I would've done it way differently than I had! Here are some secrets that'll help you when discovering what's best for you in your college years!
Find the program you're interested in at a community college!
This will help you to find the program you're interested in and gain leverage, or experience in a two-year program at your local community college! It's not glamorous, but sis it's smart and cost efficient in the end! (Remember to think long-term and not right now)
Apply for scholarships and don't be lazy!
If I could do undergrad over, I would've applied to way more scholarship opportunities than I did. They take time and many require essays and/or video interviews, but it's worth it in the end when you don't have to come out of pocket or take out federal loans! Who wants to owe money after college?!
Stay and home and commute sis!
This option is not readily available to everyone being that not everyone has a car immediately when entering college; I didn't however, if you do, stay at home and commute sis! This will save you THOUSANDS of dollars at any college you attend. The bulk of my studnet loans comes from when I stayed on campus my freshman year. Was it fun? Yes! Would I do it again though? No.. Remember to think long-term and understand that when the fun is gone, you're stuck with monthly payments of hundreds of dollars. That's not fun AT ALL!
Keep your GPA high in undergraduate school!
It's okay to party and have fun sis! That's what college is for! I did all of these things while still making the Dean's List consecutively. It's vital to keep your GPA high so that you don't lose scholarship money. It also makes it easier if you want to apply to graduate school afterwards! Many graduate programs will waive the GRE and GMAT if your undergraduate GPA is at least a 3.0. Make sure to keep those grades up sis! It's not cute to be pretty with sloppy grades or just a pretty face! Okurrrrrrt *Cardi B voice*
Don't be afraid to ask questions and give yourself grace!
No one is perfect and we are all learning no matter how old or "grown" we are! Don't be afraid to ask people questions if you don't know the answer. There is never a dumb question! I emailed my advisor Bryanna 24/7 and probably got on her nerves chile! (Shoutout to you girl I love you!) That's what advisors, professors, and adminstrators are there for! They get paid for this type of work. Also, give yourslelf grace! We live in a different time than our parents did and careers are not the same as they used to be. It's okay to explore options and not know what you want to do immediately. Remember to trust in GOD! (Proverbs 3:5-6)
